DIY Decoupage Pumpkins
Dearest Readers,
It’s Tuesday - You know the Drill…a fresh new blog post coming to you from yours truly.
To any new faces joining us today - thank you for being here! Welcome to Lady K Creative, the landing page for all things Faith, Fashion, Crafts, and Recipes!
I hope this post finds you with cooler temperatures and your favorite Fall beverage in hand. I am soaking up these September Days and college football. (Loyal and True - OSU Fan, aka the Cardiac Cowboys) I am also preparing for my first-ever Girl’s Trip to Round Top, Texas, for the Antique Fair! If you’ve ever been, send me your tips and recommendations on social media!
Surprisingly enough, I decorate less for Fall than for the other seasons. I love the cozy vibes of fall, making soup and homemade bread and snuggling up with hot tea and a book. I am a HUGE fan of bursts of color and the warmth of Fall hues.
The color orange gets a bad rap, but I promise you can decorate with Fall colors tastefully! (Okay, I get it; I am biased toward America’s Brightest Orange, but at least it isn’t burnt!) Pumpkins are my go-to decoration for the Fall Season.
If you are looking for a fabulous small business to stock up on Fall Essentials - look no further and checkout B. Whimsy in Dalhart, Texas! Have you seen the latest Makenzie Childs Pumpkins? They are so cute - Fall 2024 at B. Whimsy has me drooling!
I wanted to craft some pumpkins to spruce up my interior decorations. My Pinterest board thrives with fun fall projects, and this decoupage craft was perfect. I have been putting random napkins to the side that are the strays left in the pack. I mean, after all, what do you do with those two random ones anyway? Reduce—Reuse—Repurpose!
DIY Decoupage Pumpkins
This craft project is perfect for a girl’s night, a Sunday porch activity, or a gift for your Thanksgiving host! You can visibly tell how the pumpkins look different based on the lighting - natural light vs. indoors. Very happy with the finished product. I used a warm orange velvet ribbon for the stems which I hot glued on.
Materials Needed:
Plastic Pumpkins - these were great from Walmart
Modge Podge - Matte Finish
Paint Brush
Napkins
Waterproof Matte Sealant
Ribbon for the pumpkin Stem
Hot Glue
Project Time to Complete: 1 Hour
Directions:
Find a safe surface to begin the decoupage process. Determine how you would like to utilize your available napkins, by laying them against the pumpkin to get a good idea of the surface area needed.
If your napkin has multiple ply layers remove the excess white layers from the back so that the napkin fully adheres to the pumpkin.
Using your paint brush, you will now apply the Modge Podge.
*Modge Podge can be sticky and messy try not to over-saturate the napkins with glue. Less is more to create a good end product. Brush glue onto the pumpkin and then cover with napkin remnants. Seal the napkin edges with additional glue.
*There will be crinkles in the napkin as the glue sets in. This gives a more natural finish, in my opinion. If you are seeking perfectly crisp lines and no wrinkles this is probably not the project for you.
Allow for your pumpkin to fully dry. Once completely dry, go outside in a ventilated area and spray with a waterproof matte sealant. Allow the pumpkins to dry fully from the sealant application. This will preserve your work especially if you decorate with these pumpkins outside. *Full sun and elements exposure is not recommended; a covered porch or shade is excellent.
Utilize ribbon to cover the stem. Heat up your hot glue gun and apply the ribbon to the stem.
There you have it!

This lovingly hand-painted magnet was gifted to me by a dear friend! It features the church where we got married and our anniversary date. I smile every time I see it front and center on our fridge!
