Hello, Dear Readers,
Thanks for tuning into the blog today! I am excited to share a simple recipe for DIY laundry detergent. This is a project I started during high school, making it as gifts for family and friends and teaching how to make it in the 4-H Clothing and Textile project. The best part? It's a high-quality detergent that won't break the bank. A batch costs about $30 and will last you up to an entire year! How awesome is that?!
My social media feed has been circulating with all-natural, non-toxic products. I am curious - have you tried any of these products? Do you believe they work well - has it improved your overall health? #nontoxliving
Do you use non-toxic products in your home?
Yes - 1,000% I've noticed a huge difference
I'm about half and half
No, what's that?
Tried it, didn't work for us
Real talk - I have not seriously and diligently tried to use non-toxic products. But those I have attempted to use have yet to get the job done. My husband is around grease, dirt, and cotton fields - I need strong detergent to clean his jeans! I do think there is a reasonable concern and need to be aware of the products we are using in our homes. However, in my humble opinion, I think we are crossing a line when we indicate that if you don’t do it X way, you are doing it wrong. That seems like society in a nutshell these days, truthfully. Okay, I digress, back to the detergent!
I will attach the recipe below for how to make it. If you don’t want extra scent, ditch the laundry scent booster. I recommend taking your trash bag outside or into the garage to compile the ingredients to prevent a mess in your kitchen.

As you can see, it includes basic household ingredients that you have likely heard of before. The fels-naptha bar is the only ingredient I was not previously familiar with. It is a laundry bar and stain remover. By grating it, you disperse its stain-removing properties throughout the laundry detergent.
A little of this DIY detergent goes a LONG way. For a standard load, all you need is 2 Tbsp!
It’s a fun little gift - I like to pair it with a wool dryer ball (the best) and share it with family and friends!

The final fruits of our backyard oasis: My Dahlias did extremely well this Summer! I ordered from Eden Brothers and will certainly use them again. Their products are shipped to you by your hardiness zone, taking the guesswork out of everything. The company will ship your bulbs or roots/tubers to you once it’s time for planting. They also include very helpful planting guides on how to plant your variety.

This past Spring I ordered:
Dahlia Bulbs (Dinnerplate) - Passion Mix (true to their name - these were definitely dinner plate size!)
Butterfly Milkweed Roots - Mix
Gladiolus Flower Bulbs - Rainbow Mix
