Girls Night Sip and Paint

Hello, Dear Friends!

Welcome to this week's blog post!

Quality time with girlfriends is unmatched! The older I become, the more I appreciate the conversations between women and how we can learn from one another. If quality time with the women you love is on your mind for 2024 - consider hosting a Sip and Paint activity! How fun would this be for a Galentines event in February!? I am always on the lookout for fun and easy ideas to connect with my girlfriends and a Sip and Paint is a great one!

Many of the bigger cities have designated “Sip and Paint,” venues where you pay for a 1-hour session to make a one-of-a-kind piece of art while drinking your beverage of choice! The artist leading the session will lead you through the step-by-step process of making a specific art design. Often, your art piece is created using a canvas and a selection of paints/paintbrushes, stencils, and appliques.

I love this idea but wanted to create an opportunity to host a Girl’s Night Sip & Paint from the comfort of my own home! I am grateful to have kickstarted the New Year surrounded by women whom I love and admire. (You know who you are!)

Here are the details from Lady K’s Girl’s Night Sip & Paint!

For my craft projects, I regularly frequent Dollar Tree ($1.25 Tree - dang inflation!) to see what available craft materials they have in stock. I was able to secure the following items:

  • Paint Brushes (4 in a package)

  • Paint Sponges (5 in a package)

  • Acrylic Paint - heads up, most stores ONLY carry the main colors in a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, violet) + black and white, so you might utilize a color wheel chart to figure out how to blend certain colors. Here is a helpful link for mixing paint colors: https://louisem.com/420569/color-mixing-chart

Depending on your project, you can also find tempera and watercolor paints at Dollar Tree. I just stuck with acrylic paints as they are more blendable + durable.

  • Modge Podge - Dollar Tree sells a 2 oz.  mini size, which is fabulous because 90% of the time I never use a whole jar for my project, and this prevents wasted Modge Podge that dries out and becomes useless.

  • Crafter’s Square Canvas Size

  • Crafter’s Square Stretched Black Canvas Size

Additionally, Joann’s was running a major deal on craft paint. They sell a bargain brand called “Top Notch.” Regularly priced this 2 oz. bottle of paint is $0.99 and they ran a special for 10 Bottles of 2 oz. Top Notch paint for $5. So a very resourceful and inexpensive way to stock up on paint!

I am rounding here as I already had in my inventory 8 paint bottles and various other craft supplies, so my total cost of art materials for Sip and Paint was around $17.50! Add in your grocery shopping for the materials for mimosas (champagne + juice) and you are set. I share these details because you can host a crafting extravaganza that does not require an exorbitant amount of time or money. I also had on hand, old magazines and a stack of craft-sized tissue paper. I used all of these items as paper media that could be used for collages layered with Modge Podge.

Being the true Pinterest girly that I am - here is an inspiration board I quickly threw together for this Sip and Paint event!

I encouraged all the girls to make their own unique art pieces for the Sip and Paint! Whatever their heart desired - they had the opportunity to make with their canvas. I am not an expert painter, so I did not feel confident giving a Bob Ross painting tutorial. :) If you host a Sip and Paint event, I recommend printing out a few pages of canvas art inspiration that your guests can refer to (an instructional guide of sorts that showcases different designs/techniques). This helps get the creative juices flowing!

My canvas ended up being an Oklahoma State Modge podge board. The bright orange colors were calling my name! I used various hues of orange tissue paper, old book pages, magazine page clippings, and Modge Podge to achieve this look!

Another fun craft idea would be to paint champagne, liquor, or wine bottles! You could instruct your guests to bring their favorite liquor of choice - champagne, wine, vodka, tequila, etc. Be sure to express that they would be using these for a painting craft on the outside of the glass bottle. Yes, you can drink the liquor, once it has been painted. :)

*Shoutout to Macy - the creative genius behind this painted bottle idea! She gifted us the sweetest hand-painted bottle that we popped and shared for our 1-year wedding anniversary!*

Additionally, a cost-effective hostess idea could be purchasing the miniature champagne bottles in bulk and having your friends paint those. Once the bottles dry, everyone can take home their painted champagne or liquor bottle masterpiece!

If you paint glass bottles, I highly recommend applying a sealant to the bottle ONCE the paint has completely DRIED. This will prevent damage to the design, especially if you chill the bottle and the paint sweats. I have used this Matte Modge Podge sealant before and had good results -  https://a.co/d/63Q3ri9.

*Be sure to read on the sealant label if it is compatible with the kind of paint you used - otherwise, you might get cracks or distorted colors in your painted masterpiece.

How did we do? I love how these art prints turned out! Vibrant colors and each one tells a different story.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog post!

Lady K’s One Thing:

The Blessed is She Journaling Bible! I have never owned a journaling bible before and I have thoroughly enjoyed this version. It has wide margins so that you can journal, jot down prayers, or doodle as you pray with scripture. I will say, the text is pretty small so a magnifying glass might be helpful for this product.

Warm Wishes,

Lady K
