Homemade Croutons

Dear Readers,

Good morning! A fresh spring salad hits the spot this time of year. I often buy chopped salad kits at the grocery store, and I have two new favorites! Both are from the Taylor’s Brand Chopped Salad Kits. I love the Everything Bagel Salad and the Dill Pickle Salad. Yummy!

There’s definitely not a shortage of bread in our house with all the sourdough loaves I have been baking! I was recently introduced to making homemade croutons from excess or stale bread. This is a game-changer! I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before now!

It’s a very simple recipe that I hope you will also enjoy!

Homemade Croutons

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. Olive Oil

1 Tsp. Italian Seasoning

1 Tsp. Prasek Chop Dust Seasoning Blend (garlic, black pepper, sea salt, onion, and a bit of sugar and spices)

1 Tsp. Peg’s Flaky Sea Salt

Loaf or pieces of Excess Bread

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Utilizing your excess or stale bread, slice the bread into ½-inch thick squares.

  3. Place sliced bread in a mixing bowl. Drizzle olive oil over the bread and toss in with the seasonings.

  4. On a parchment-lined baking sheet, evenly spread out the seasoned bread pieces on the baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, and then turn the bread pieces over and bake for 5-7 minutes more.

  5. Remove from oven, let cool, and store in a clean, dry container.

Pro-Tip: Keep an eye on your bread while it is toasting in the oven to prevent burning or scorching. Do not try to speed the process by flipping on the broiler - it will blacken the bread and not toast it.  (Been there, done that, haha!)

Lady K’s One Thing:

I live on the struggle bus when it comes to drinking enough water! I am horrible at drinking enough water throughout the day. I recently found these Twininning’s water infusers that you add to water, and they are amazing! Low calorie and no extra sweeteners! It gives me that extra flavor boost that I need to get me through the day. 10/10 would recommend!

Sending all my best,
