Life Lessons from Princess Mia

Dear Readers,

I am sipping my extra hot latte this morning to start my Tuesday off on the right foot! I hope you have a great week and make time for something that fills your cup and brings you happiness!

On the blog today I will be discussing one of the best movies from the 2000s! I firmly believe that they don’t make movies like this anymore (Princess Diaries, High School Musical, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 27 Dresses, Bride Wars, Cheaper by the Dozen, etc.)

I recently re-watched the Prince Diaries Series (Movies 1 and 2), and I hope with all my effort that one day they film a third movie!

What is your all-time favorite movie from childhood? I bet it holds significance to you, and it would bring you happiness to curl up on the couch with a bucket of popcorn and re-watch said movie. So, consider this your sign to have a good old-fashioned movie night!

As I watched this movie, I couldn’t help but ponder on the wisdom Princess Mia and Queen Clarice impart.

Here are some key life lessons from Princess Mia:

  • You can always overcome your fear of public speaking.

  • Sometimes, your eyebrows need a little TLC

  • Sipping tea can brighten any day

  • Pantyhose can be deadly; Attempt to pull on pantyhose in a moving vehicle at your own peril

  • Everyone needs a Joey in their life

  • A limo escort is fabulous

  • Not all girls are athletically coordinated

  • How to Princess wave

  • Etiquette - manners matter

  • No one can make you feel inferior without your consent

  • The paparazzi never stops

  • Be careful of fire hazards at a formal dinner

  • Listen to the advice of your grandmother; she is always wise!

  • Miracles happen

  • Mia and Clarice are fashion icons

  • Sit, walk, and talk like a Princess

  • Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.

  • We never rush; we hasten.

  • The death of progress comes from the mindset that “We do it that way because that is how we have always done it.”

  • How many stupid times a day, I use the word "I."

  • A skilled act of diplomacy can be as simple as a good slumber party.

  • Never settle for less than a good foot-popping kiss

  • Your heart of gold will be your crowing beauty, the most beautiful part of you!

  • A princess never chases a chicken.

  • When you have the opportunity to enact real change in the world, do so with grace and style!

I have always been fascinated by royal fashion, and the costume design for this movie is on point! Grace, Poise, and Etiquette are beautiful talents that can be developed over time. I think our society could use a healthy dose of all three. ;)

Perhaps my biggest takeaway from the movie is Princess Mia's example of how a lady should carry herself:

  • Taking ownership of our mistakes is not only the right thing to do but teaches us to learn from our past.

  • We must constantly be aware of the needs of others and offer our help in any way we can.

  • Learning through education and travel are great ways to broaden our horizons.

  • Dressing for success gives you a boost of confidence!

  • We must first know ourselves in order to be the best authentic version of ourselves!

Lady K’s One Thing:

Does your front door need a spruce up for Summer? Start a DIY coir rug project that you can paint and customize. I found this coir rug for $5 and painted on it to personalize the wording and colors. All you need is acrylic paint and a coir rug. To increase the life of your rug, you can seal it with a clear sealant spray paint to preserve the colors and design. I love how this brightens up our back porch!
