Nostalgia in Book Form

One of my favorite childhood authors, Ally Carter, just released an adventurous rom-com titled “Blonde Identity.” I nearly devoured the book and read the entire thing in one sitting. Her wit in writing, by switching back and forth between the male and female character lead, is very charming. The main features of the book include:

  • Funny and awkward moments

  • A lead female character with amnesia who also happens to be a twin

  • A not-so-good but extremely good-looking guy spy

  • The book is so fast paced you’ll jump from chapter to chapter like you yourself are parachuting out of a building

It’s less than 300 pages, and you can easily read it on any of your end-of-summer trips or by beating the heat in a comfy chair at your house. And it’s promising to see that the ending of the book could be setting the stage for a sequel!

Does anyone else remember ordering books out of a paper catalog at school?

Receiving the scholastic book fair list and order form made for a really great day in elementary school! I am an original GG (Gallagher Girl), and I realize many of you likely have zero idea what that reference means. So truly - do yourself a favor and read the Gallagher Girl series by Ally Carter. The series follows Cammie Morgan and her close friends Liz and Bex, who attend a super-elite, top-secret spy school…I mean the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women.

  • I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You (2006)

  • Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy (2007)

  • Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover (2009)

  • Only The Good Spy Young (2010)

  • Out of Sight, Out of Time (2012)

  • United We Spy (2013)

My affinity for books revolving around spies, sleuthing, and mysteries started at a very young age. Until recently, I was unaware of the amazing history surrounding the Nancy Drew mysteries series. Carolyn Keene is the cited author for the series, but the listed author name is a developed “pen name” for multiple authors who chipped in to write the books. The first Nancy Drew book was originally published in 1930. I find it rather fitting that these writers sought “anonymity” for their work when their genre is a mystery! I also realize that for many of these women writing in this time period - their only hope to have their work published was to be a member of a syndicate or newspaper and “sell their story” to the publisher. I have a set of classic hardcover Nancy Drew Mysteries that contain 2 books in 1 from the front to the back cover. They are special to me, and I wanted to share what they look like!

This blog has been uplifting for me to share what I love, so thank you for tuning in. I appreciate you tagging along, and I am really glad you are here.
