Shop & Support Local

I know many of you are excited and looking ahead to Labor Day weekend! A day out of the office is always something to look forward to. I hope you all have a great week!

Saint Augustine depicted a very succinct and to-the-point definition of how we should approach life, no matter what our career/vocation might be. He said, “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” It really tears apart the words, “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me,” which I have definitely said before.

Quite simply, we can only be responsible for ourselves, and we are not in control = He is. We are responsible for our actions, words, and thoughts. I am generalizing that for many of us, our goal is to build a good life for ourselves and our families. As we build the life we desire, do we seek out opportunities to support local businesses?

I am grateful to live in the Texas Panhandle and to continuously witness the generosity of “small-town” living. As we are called to serve our neighbors, I can’t think of a better contribution to this mission than to support local businesses. No, I am not advocating boycotting all big box store brands but take into consideration how shopping locally can make a big impact in your community! Don't just take my word for it - Forbes advises that "Local businesses reinvest nearly 70% of their profits back into the local economy, compared to less than 30% for national chains."

So, tell me - How do you support local?!

General Ideas to support local businesses:

  • Visit your local farmer’s market! Many are open from June through September

  • Source everyday staples from a local producer: Chicken or eggs, Beef, dairy products, canned veggies, preserves, or pickles

  • Birthday and Christmas shop early at a locally run boutique or store

  • Book a family photo session with a photographer in your community

  • Share posts and page information on social media about local businesses

  • Leave a positive review online when you have a great shopping/eating/etc. experience

Here is a list of families who either raise and direct sell beef, are family-owned meat processors, or sell local food products! Please be sure to follow them on social media or shop in person!

Lady K's One Thing:

While you are doing some delicious meal prep and cooking over Labor Day Weekend be sure to add to your shopping cart Dawn Powerwash Spray. It cuts through grease and grime in no time! It is our new go-to in the kitchen and a couple sprays goes far. 10/10 would recommend.

See you next week,

Lady K
