When Life Gives You Lemons

Happy Tuesday,

Life is full of twists and turns. When we go through hard and trying times, in the moment, it is hard to fathom the “why” behind it all.

I had never heard this quote before, and it deeply resonated with me when I was listening to the What in the Dang Heck Podcast.

In the aftermath of trauma or hardship, it is gratifying to know that one day, we might feel called upon to share our story. Sharing our experience and comforting another person in a similar trying situation is a beautiful representation of God’s providence.

When we are diagnosed with an illness, suffer the loss of a loved one, or face great uncertainty, it is wonderful to be consoled by someone who knows exactly what we are going through. It is priceless to be loved by that dear friend who is willing to sit with us in our misery and offer the tissues needed to dry our tears.

Henry Nouwen describes this type of next-level friendship.

When life gets tough, relying on our tribe of people—those who know our hearts (sometimes better than ourselves)—can bring perspective and clarity to whatever situation we face. I have great respect and admiration for the women in my life who have stood up for me in all of life’s seasons. In honor of that special feminine friendship, I wanted to curate a list of heartwarming “Thinking of You” gifts for When Life Gives You Lemons.
